MamaBaby Haiti Fundraising Gala “What if?” October 20th, 2018 at the Tiffany Center

Portland, Oregon:

Imagine you were given the opportunity to impact real change for families experiencing the highest maternal and infant mortality in the Western Hemisphere? This is your chance to make a difference, while experiencing an unforgettable evening.

We cordially invite you to the MamaBaby Haiti Fundraising Gala on October 20th, 2018 at Tiffany Center in Portland, OR. This special event will showcase the unique beauty of Haiti, along with an inspiring message from the MamaBaby team whom are dedicated to providing exceptional prenatal, birth and postpartum care to the community’s most vulnerable people. Come and enjoy Haitian style food and music. Participate in our silent auction and hear from our keynote speaker, midwife Jennie Joseph. This will be a celebration like no other, Haitian style.

These are the facts, the maternal mortality rate in Haiti was 359 per 100,000 live births in 2015. The vast majority of these deaths are a result of eclampsia, sepsis and postpartum hemorrhages; and with the access to proper medical care these conditions are highly preventable. The U.S. had a maternal mortality rate of 26.6 per 100,000 live births in 2016. By comparison in 2016 the infant mortality rate in Haiti – deaths of children aged one year or younger – was 52.2 per 1,000 live births, whereas the U.S. rate was 5.6 per 1,000. With your financial contribution, MamaBaby Haiti can continue to operate our clinic in Cap-Haitïen and provide mobile outreach to families in outlying rural villages. Every family deserves to celebrate their baby’s first birthday and beyond.

MamaBaby Haiti provides accessible high quality midwifery regardless of ability to pay.

Midwife, Jennie Joseph will serve as this year’s keynote speaker. Ms. Joseph hails from Britain, where she received formal midwifery training and began her career as a midwife. Ms. Joseph is a dynamic women’s health advocate, founder and executive director of Commonsense Childbirth Inc.. She has continuously worked to improve maternal and child healthcare and she developed the model of care known as the The JJ Way®. Ms. Joseph has built up a reputation across the United States and has given numerous presentations, including a Congressional briefing on Capitol Hill, in order to discuss the statistical data as well as describe practical solutions to improving birth outcomes. Ms. Joseph is a regular presenter at maternal child health conferences and organizations; she has a leadership position amongst US and international midwives movements and is a subject matter expert on racial and perinatal disparities in the USA.
